Cleanup removes hazards to public health.
Methamphetamine (meth) is an illegal drug.
When people make, use, store or handle meth, harmful chemical residue can contaminate property. This includes:
- Homes and garages.
- Clothes, furniture and toys.
- Vehicles.
- Soil, air and water.
If police find a meth lab and contamination is above safety standards, we issue an Unfit for Use Health Order to close the property until it’s cleaned up. We oversee cleanup at meth labs to make sure it meets public health standards.
We can help property owners and cleanup contractors with:
- Technical assistance.
- Understanding state and local rules and regulations.
- A list of approved cleanup contractors.
- Meth lab cleanup oversight to ensure it meets public health standards.
