    Vaccines are an important tool to keep children healthy.

    We know the news around vaccines can be confusing. Despite this, the science remains strong that vaccines are the safe and healthy choice. We encourage healthcare providers and community members to rely on evidence-based recommendations from trusted national physician organizations, like the American Academy of Pediatrics.

    Immunizations protect children from many dangerous diseases.

    It’s best to go to your healthcare provider for vaccines.

    • They can check if your child is healthy.
    • Most insurance covers the office and administration fees. Ask your provider.

    Vaccines are free for children 0–18 years old at Washington healthcare providers and pharmacies that participate in the Vaccines for Children program.

    Some providers charge an administration fee, but most insurance covers it. You won’t be turned away if you can’t pay.

    School and childcare requirements

    Children can get vaccines at many pharmacies.

    Before you go in, call and ask:

    • Do you have age limits?
      • Some pharmacies require children to be at least 4 or 10 years old. 
    • Do you have the vaccines I need in stock? 
    • Do you charge for the vaccines I need?
      • Some pharmacies charge, even if you have insurance.
