  • Equity Action Network

    Strong partnerships for strong communities

Tacoma-Pierce County Equity Action Network (EAN) formed in response to COVID-19.  EAN is a collection of more than 80 community partners. Together we amplify the voices, experiences, and solutions of communities most affected by systemic racism. We promote pro-equity policies and steps to address societal inequities. We build relationships with community leaders on policies to address these areas. And we encourage more people to get involved.

Removing barriers, increasing access during the pandemic

EAN works with communities hardest hit by COVID-19 to increase protection from disease and promote resiliency and recovery. In December 2020, the Health Department completed a COVID-19 Health Equity Assessment to inform COVID-19 response and recovery efforts. Among these efforts, the Tacoma Refugee Choir produced music videos to encourage steps to stop the spread of COVID-19 as part of ensuring culturally grounded communications and engagement from community partners.

For more long-term solutions, we partnered with the Northwest Center for Public Health Practice at the University of Washington to report on Policies to Advance Health Equity. EAN leaders identified 10 policy areas we will focus our work:

      • Healthcare access.
      • Economic stability.
      • Affordable housing.
      • Youth behavioral health.
      • Community development.
      • Education access.
      • Affordable food.
      • Social connections.
