How we calculate our hourly rate and determine service fee rates

Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department uses an hourly rate calculation to establish annual hourly rates. To determine service fee rates, we multiply staff time to complete the service by the calculated hourly rate.

    Hourly Rate Percent Increase = [(C1 x C2) + (S1 x S2) + (M1 x M2)]

Hourly Rate Increase = [(Hourly Rate Percent Increase x Current Hourly Rate) + Current Hourly Rate]

    • C1 = CPI April (Seattle-Bellevue-Tacoma).
    • C2 = Supplies and services % of expenses.
    • S1 = Attrition, salary adjustments and Collective Bargain Agreement COLA.
    • S2 = Salaries % of expenses.
    • M1 = Medical insurance increase.
    • M2 = Medical insurance percent of expenses.
    • 2023 hourly rate = $204.
    • 2024 hourly rate = $217.

    Hourly rate calculation variable values

    Variable 2024 value
    C1 6.9%
    C2 33%
    S1 4.15%
    S2 47%
    M1 10%
    M2 20%

    2024 approved hourly rate calculation

    (6.9% x 33%) + (4.15% x 47%) + (10% x 20%) = $217
