  • Public Records Request

Washington law (RCW 42.56) gives the public the right to access public records maintained by government agencies.

How to submit a public records request

To request records, visit our online Public Records Request portal.

For a valid public records request, you must ask for a specific and identifiable public record. Request for general information or questions are not valid.

To help us locate your records, include details like:

    • Subject matter.
    • Date range.
    • Location.
    • Physical address.
    • Parcel number.
    • Names of people or issues involved.
    • Account.

You may not need to submit a formal request for some records.

    Important notes about public records

Some information is exempt from disclosure under state law. For example, personal health information (PHI) is protected and will be redacted. For more information review the Public Records Act.

We don’t offer a centralized records index because it would be unduly burdensome to our regular work. If one of our programs creates an index in the future, we’ll post it here. See our full Public Disclosure and Access to Public Records Policy and Procedure for more info.
