• Waste Disposal Authorization

    Information for contractors and consultants.

Not sure if your waste can go to the landfill?

We can help. We use the Waste Disposal Authorization (WDA) process to determine if waste is hazardous or non-hazardous so you can properly dispose in Pierce County.

Some waste—like industrial waste or contaminated soil—can designate as dangerous waste and isn’t accepted at the landfill. Other examples of possible dangerous waste include:

    • Contaminated soils.
    • Industrial waste (ash, slag).
    • Spent sandblast material.
    • Paint-booth filters.
    • Residue from steam-cleaning operations.
    • Grit and soil from carwash catch basins.
    • Certain asbestos waste.

    Get a waste disposal authorization.

All waste must be generated in Pierce County. Our landfill can’t accept waste from outside Pierce County.

    Properly designate your waste.

You are responsible for designating your waste. Ecology’s Dangerous Waste Designation website can help assist you with this.
