Help save lives. Never drink and drive.

In 2021, drunk drivers killed an average of 37 people a day in the United States. That’s 1 person killed every 39 minutes. With your help we can prevent every one of these tragedies.

  • Alcohol reduces the ability of your brain to function, impairing thinking, reasoning, and muscle coordination. All these abilities are essential to operating a vehicle safely.
  • We can all save lives in Pierce County by not getting behind the wheel after having a drink.

Health officer recruitment update

After the confirmation of Chantell Harmon Reed as our Director of Public Health last week, we are closer to hiring a Health Officer.

  • Candidates for this position interviewed with a hiring panel made up of Board of Health and community members.
  • Finalists then interviewed with the Director of Public Health as well as Pierce County Executive Bruce Dammeier and Tacoma Mayor Victoria Woodards last week.
  • Finalists are also interviewing with Health Department leadership.
  • Our new Director of Public Health will likely finalize the appointment of the new Health Officer in the coming weeks.
