Board of Health approves consulting contract for Director Reed in response to investigator’s report

At its July 2 meeting, the Tacoma-Pierce County Board of Health unanimously approved a contract with Nash Consulting, Inc. to work with Director Chantell Harmon Reed and her leadership team to create greater cohesiveness, increased trust, stronger leadership skills, and a general increase in effectiveness.

The Board took this action in response to an outside investigator’s report following the Board’s receipt of a letter describing complaints about Director Reed from three unions representing Health Department employees.

“Director Reed has the Board’s full support,” Board of Health Chair Joe Bushnell said. “The Board wants her and her leadership team to be successful in our vision to ensure healthy people in healthy communities. With the assistance of Nash Consulting’s skilled professionals, the Board expects improved adherence to the Department’s core values of equity, integrity, respect and leadership.”

The Board of Health is committed to ensuring the Health Department has an organizational culture where everyone feels valued, as it continues its mission to protect and improve the health of all people and places in Pierce County.

“I remain steadfast in my commitment to this community and all the work we do to improve the health and wellbeing of everyone in Pierce County,” Director Reed said. “I am proud of all the changes we’ve made over the past year to position this department for long-term growth and sustainability. I look forward to where we are headed.”
